Your Ultimate Wedding Stationery Checklist

Your complete guide to what to order, when to order it, and how to make your day extra special.

Planning a wedding is such an exciting time - from choosing the dress to finalising the guest list, every detail feels like part of the magic. But amidst all the excitement, it’s easy to overlook one essential element: your wedding stationery.

Beautiful wedding stationery doesn’t just invite your guests to the celebration - it sets the tone for the whole day. From the first save the date to your final thank you cards, every piece tells part of your love story. It doesn’t have to cost the earth either, there are lots of affordable wedding stationery options available that don’t compromise on quality.

Here’s my ultimate checklist to keep you organised, inspired, and right on schedule.

6 - 12 Months Before the Wedding: The First Impression

Save the Dates

Ideal if you're getting married during peak season or planning a destination wedding, these are a really great way to make sure that all your favourite people keep the date free!

When to order: 9 - 12 months in advance

When to send: 8 - 10 months before the big day

Top Tip: Choose a design that hints at your wedding theme or colours - it’s a lovely way to start building anticipation.

4 - 8 Months Before: The Essentials

Wedding Invitations

The star of the stationery show. These set the formal tone and provide all the key details. Having these prepared doesn’t have to be a complicated process, you can choose from semi-custom options which are personalised with your details for a speedy turnaround, see my semi-custom collections here.

Alternatively, if you fancy something completely bespoke then this will take a bit longer but means you have an invitation which is all about you.

When to order (bespoke): 6 - 8 months ahead

When to order (semi-custom): 5 - 6 months ahead
When to send: 3 - 4 months before the wedding (or 5 - 6 months if abroad)

Details to include:

Main invitation

Details card (including info like accommodation, transport, gift list)

RSVP card (don’t forget to include a stamped return envelope if you’re wanting postal replies)

1 - 2 Months Before: On-the-Day Details

Order of Service

A printed schedule for the ceremony - particularly useful if you’re including hymns, readings, or cultural traditions.

Table Plan

Usually displayed at the reception entrance. Helps guests find their seats easily (and elegantly).

Place Cards

Personalised name cards for each guest - can double up as favours or keepsakes. Beautifully hand-written calligraphy cards can really elevate your table arrangements and add a personal touch for your guests.

Menus

Placed on each table or setting. Ideal if you’re offering multiple meal choices or want to add a little more elegance to your tablescape.

Table Numbers or Names

Functional and stylish - keep guests moving and tie into your theme with creativity.

When to order: 4 - 6 weeks before

Top Tip: Finalise your guest list and meal choices before ordering to avoid last-minute changes.

After the Wedding: The Final Touch

Thank You Cards

Gratitude never goes out of style. A handwritten thank you note shows how much you appreciate every gift, gesture and guest.

When to order: Just before the wedding or immediately after

When to send: Within 1 - 2 months post-wedding

Top Tip: Include a favourite wedding photo for an extra-personal touch.
